A construction project currently underway at the Brewton Medical Center will allow the hospital to move its physical therapy service there and provide additional office space needed for the recruitment of more doctors to Brewton.
Phillip Parker, administrator of D.W. McMillan Hospital, said the hospital is already attempting to recruit doctors of pediatrics and obstetrics and an orthopedic surgeon.
Parker said the hospital recently hosted a pediatrician here who is considering locating to Brewton. The hospital also participates in recruiting events for physicians.
University of South Alabama and from Selma and Anniston," Parker said. "We are on the recruiting trail."
Parker said he wants to recruit a full-time orthopedic surgeon to Brewton.
Parker said the orthopedic office will be located adjacent to the physical therapy unit in the new construction, making access easier for patients and their families.
The physical therapy center currently is located in the Hines shopping center on Douglas Avenue.
Construction is expected to be completed by May.
Gresham, Smith and Partners of Birmingham did the architectural work for the project, and Cort, Brasfield and Gorrie, also of Birmingham, is the contractor.
