Mrs. Mattie Evelyn Weaver Jernigan, 91, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, in a Jay hospital after a brief illness. She was a native and life-long resident of Brewton. She was a member of Brewton First United Methodist Church, Past Worthy Matron and Grand Martha of the Eastern Star, Daughters of American Revolution, Escambia County Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary and a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Virgil W. Jernigan of Canton, Ga.; a brother, C.W. Weaver of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren, Ronald E. Williams, Deborah Williams Hanks, Fritz Morgan Jernigan and Hilary D. Jernigan; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Scott officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Chapel directing.
