Ft. Crawford funding good news for community
The City of East Brewton got good news this week when it was announced the community will receive $15,000 with which to fund excavations to determine the location of historic Ft. Crawford.
The funding, which comes through the Alabama Historical Commission, will fund the work of university students who will attempt to locate the actual site of the 19th century fort, the last documented fort in Alabama that has yet to be found.
If the archeological remains of the fort can be found, and funding can be secured to rebuild it, it could mean a tremendous boon for the entire community, drawing tourists off the interstate and positively impacting the local economy.
Congratulations to those who have worked to secure the funding to jump start this project again.
