Mr. Samuel Greely Evans, 69, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, after a brief illness at his residence on Hwy. 29. He was a native and life long resident of Escambia County, Ala., and was a retired logger. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Damascus Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons, George Evans of Wetumpka and Johnny Evans of Montgomery; one daughter, Tina (Brett) McNeill of Deatsville; three brothers, Robert (Corine) Hill Evans of Enterprise, John (Mary) Evans of Jay, Fla., and Harry Evans of Brewton; three sisters, Marie (Jimmy) Wilson of Birmingham, Lottie Bramlett of Panama City, Fla., and Carolyn (Dewayne) Harris of Brewton and three grandchildren, Sam Evans. Patrick Evans and Jessica McNeill.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bert Bounds officiating. Burial followed at Damascus Cemetery at Douglas Chapel Church with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Curtis Jordan, Micah Jordan, Brian Grantham, Michael Martin, Windall Eye and Chris Jones.
