On your mark, get set, shop! The Friday after Thanksgiving is probably the busiest day of the year, both for shoppers and businesses. Whether you call it &#8220Black Friday” or, in the case of Wal-Mart, &#8220Blitz Friday,” it is all the same.
Stores open early, some as early as 5 a.m., and shoppers gather at the doors ready to get the specials before they all disappear. They have scanned the newspapers, picked out the best buys and then made their plans as to how to be everywhere at the same time. Shoppers get their bargains and stores get a chance to get their sales out of the red into the black, thus the name, &#8220Black Friday.”
Shoppers in Brewton were ready to storm the stores early Friday. Wal-Mart opened at 5 a.m., and according to store manager Brian English, there were plenty of people waiting when the doors were unlocked.
English also said the shoppers seemed to be spending about the same this year, but he believes they are getting more for their money.
One shopper who did not get an early start, but came around 10 a.m. said she was well pleased. Crystal Browder and her daughter, Rachael, decided to go in a little later this year.
