BOE meeting held

   The Escambia County Board of Education held a special board meeting on Thursday at 10 a.m. The meeting began with a call to order by the Board Chairman Willie J. Grissett. The board reviewed the monthly financial statement for May 2019. All bank statements have been reconciled through May 31, 2019. The board also approved of a four percent salary increase for the 2019-2020 salary schedule. The board announced a total of nine resignations: three special education teachers, one elementary teacher, one science teacher, one custodian, two lunchroom workers, and one part-time bus driver. 

   The board announced a total of three retirements: a secretary from the Brewton Central Office, a lunchroom worker and a bus driver. There were also a total of five transfers to and from schools within Escambia County. The board stated there will be a total of 16 new hires: two math teachers, three elementary teachers, three special education teachers, one instructional teacher aide, two custodians, one social studies teacher, one teacher/director for Turtle Point Science Center, one community educator for Flomaton High School’s summer program science camp, and one counselor. There was also one employment change. 

   The board’s next meeting will be July 25 at 10 a.m.
