The Alabama Association of Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) announced July 27 its sponsorship for the Alabama Department of Public Health’s (ADPH) summer COVID-19 mobile testing program.
The ADPH is continuing to offer and expand testing in 67 counties during the hot summer months. There are mobile testing sites in Atmore and Brewton.
Preparation for summer testing creates unique challenges in the extremely warm summer climate in Alabama, according to officials.
For nursing staff, COVID-19 testing requires them to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) that is hot, officials said in a release.
Many county health department staff will need fans and generators, tents and tent bolts, tables, extension cords and cooling/hydration stations for nurses who will be wearing heavy PPE.
Dr. Scott Harris, state health officers, said he appreciates RC&D and its help to sponsor the program.
Funding for the project was made available through the efforts of Rep. Alan Baker and Sen. Greg Albritton.
Gulf Coast RC&D Chairman Raymond Wiggins thanked the legislators for their support and advocacy of the program.
